Joint & Muscle Health
Systemic Enzymes & Natural Supplements to Support Joint, Muscle & Bone Health
If you're like most people, you usually take for granted the miracle of the body's infrastructure. Your bones, muscles, joints and connective tissues are a symphony of energy and movement. Movement is the key to our sense of well-being.
Muscle, Joint, Bone & Connective Tissue Health
The skeleton provides structure and support for the body. Joints are the pivotal areas where bones connect, allowing the skeleton to achieve mobility. But the bones don't directly connect to each other; the jointed areas are cushioned by cartilage, membranes and fluid.
Muscles provide the force and strength to move the body – including the beating of that all-important muscle that regulates blood circulation, the heart. Although directed by the brain, the body's ability to move depends on the condition and health of the muscles, joints, connective tissue and bones.
It's in our best interest, therefore, to adopt a lifestyle that supports the health of our moving parts!
Exercise is one of the best ways to slow or prevent problems with the muscles, joints, and bones. A moderate exercise program can help you maintain strength and flexibility.†
Inflammation and Joint/Muscle Health
Many people associate the term “inflammation” with bad things, but in fact, inflammation can be good! It is a necessary process by which the body’s white blood cells help keep us healthy. However, it is important to maintain proper level of inflammatory response to achieve a balance in the body.
When inflammation occurs, chemicals from the body’s white blood cells are released into the blood or affected tissues (muscles and joints) in an attempt to rid the body of foreign substances. This release of chemicals increases the blood flow to the area and may result in redness and warmth.
The increased number of cells and inflammatory substances (“cellular debris”) within joints cause irritation, wearing down of cartilage and swelling of the joint lining.
It follows, then, that helping your body maintain a normal, healthy inflammation response is key to maintaining joint and muscle health. The foods you eat can be an important part of this process.
Bestselling author and food expert Michael Pollan has recommended three simple food rules to live by … especially for those of us concerned with maintaining optimal health. “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”
If that sounds a bit draconian, you may prefer a more user-friendly approach. To help balance the body’s natural inflammatory response, many medical and nutrition experts recommend some form of Mediterranean diet.*†
Basically, a Mediterranean diet consists of lots of plant foods, fiber-rich whole grains, some protein mainly from fish and fowl, and small amounts of fat in the form of nuts and olive oil.
A Mediterranean eating plan combines the best of both worlds because it is delicious as well as nutritious!
Examine the nutrient value of these traditional Mediterranean foods and you’ll recognize many of the essential ingredients listed below, which are found in supplements formulated by Nutri-Health® to provide support for healthy functioning of joints, muscles, bones and connective tissue.*

Ingredients that support joint, muscle & bone health
Ashwaganda root is gathered from the evergreen ashwaganda plant, a member of the pepper family used in traditional Ayurvedic therapies. Ashwaganda root is rich in flavonoids that act as potent antioxidants to help cleanse the body of damaging free radicals. Ashwaganda root also contains withanolides, compounds that are similar to ginsenosides in Asian ginseng; these compounds and ashwaganda's antioxidant properties help support healthy, balanced stress levels in the body.*
Boswellia, also known as "Indian frankincense," is an herb commonly used in Ayurveda (the traditional medicine of India). It is traditionally used to relieve symptoms of inflammation.*
Bromelain is a mixture of proteolytic (protein-digesting) enzymes derived from the stems and juice of pineapples. It is used in folk medicines to help relieve symptoms of inflammation. Studies suggest it may support joint health.*
Calcium plays a critical role in nerve transmission, heart function, blood-pressure regulation, blood clotting and other body processes, in addition to its bone-building benefits.* Women need to be especially careful to get enough calcium as they age. Postmenopausal women need 1,200-1,500 mg of calcium per day.
D-ribose is a clinically studied compound that accelerates the natural way the body produces energy. It is a critical building block for the cellular synthesis of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), essential for genetic materials DNA and RNA. D-ribose helps the body restore energy, improve cardiac function and reduce muscle stiffness, soreness and fatigue.
Magnesium is necessary for metabolizing carbohydrates and fats into energy, and for supporting healthy bones, healthy muscles and nerves, and a healthy immune system.*
Manganese is an essential mineral found throughout the body as an enzyme activator and in the mitochondria, or powerhouse of each cell, as an antioxidant. As an enzyme activator, manganese supports the metabolism of carbohydrates and amino acids, healthy bone development, and optimal cellular repair.*
Resveratrol, a plant extract, offers powerful protection against free radical damage, which is associated with premature cell aging.* Resveratrol's antioxidant action slows oxidation, or deterioration of the cell, making it a natural protective substance for overall cellular health in supporting the muscles, tissues, and healthy circulation.*
Serratiopeptidase is a systemic enzyme found in the gut wall of silkworms. This enzyme is proteolytic (protein digesting) and helps the moth break down the cocoon and emerge. The proteolytic quality of serratiopeptidase is used to help support a proper inflammatory response by breaking up cellular debris and promoting normal, healthy circulation.* ††
Vitamin D3, also known as cholecalciferol, is produced when the skin is exposed to the sun's ultraviolet rays. This fat-soluble vitamin helps with calcium absorption and retention through reduced urinary calcium loss. Vitamin D3 also supports the immune system through blood cell formation and promotes healthy cell differentiation.*
Zinc is a natural mineral that promotes growth and development of healthy body tissues. It supports enzyme catalytic activity, healthy immune function, protein synthesis, and cell division.*
